Udaipur, 17 August (Kiran News). The lifeline of Udaipur city and a symbol of its Ramsar Wetland status, Pichola Lake is suffering due to polluted water, solid waste, and chemical contamination. A recent test report from the Pollution Control Department on dirty water entering the lake at Panchdevriya Ghat has revealed shocking results. The report found the presence of fecal coliform bacteria (germs found in human waste) and fluoride in the water.

Lake conservationist Anil Mehta stated that both Pichola and Fatehsagar lakes are major sources of drinking water. Any discharge of dirty water, sewage, solid waste, plastic, polythene, and domestic garbage into these lakes is extremely hazardous. Sewage waste and garbage are continuously flowing into the lakes from several places within the old city.
The ongoing presence of dangerous bacteria and toxic elements in these drinking water sources poses a serious risk to public health. While the current monsoon rains help maintain the balance of the lakes, this polluted water could become a major health and environmental hazard during the summer.
Mehta emphasized that the administration must conduct a thorough survey along the lake shores to repair all sewage lines, remove old pipelines from the lake, and strictly act against those dumping waste directly into the water.
