Farmer Killed in Land Dispute in Jharkhand

Chatra, July 7: A 50-year-old farmer was brutally killed in a land dispute in the Hunterganj police station area of Chatra district, Jharkhand. Several family members, including the victim’s elder brother, have been named in the case. A video of the incident has gone viral on social media, showing multiple individuals attacking the victim with sticks while he lay on the ground.

The victim, Kailash Yadav, was plowing his share of land when his elder brother, Vilas Yadav, along with other family members, arrived at the scene. An argument over the land escalated into a violent clash.

It is alleged that Kailash was assaulted with sticks, resulting in his death on the spot. The viral video shows several people attacking the fallen man with sticks, although the authenticity of the video has not been independently verified.

The police are investigating the video and other available evidence to confirm the involvement of the accused. Based on the statement of the victim’s wife, Saroj Devi, a murder case has been registered at the Hunterganj police station. The FIR names Vilas Yadav, his wife Malon Devi, their son Mithilesh Yadav, Kamlesh Yadav, Manish Kumar, Sunita Devi, and two minors as accused.

The police have acted swiftly, detaining some of the accused while searches for the absconding suspects are ongoing. A police team, led by Station House Officer Prabhat Kumar, is investigating the case.

Preliminary investigations reveal that there has been a long-standing dispute between the two brothers over the land. According to local residents, the property had been divided earlier, but disputes over the relevant land persisted. In light of the incident, additional police forces have been deployed in Datmi village to maintain order.
