During a late-night operation in Kota, officials seized a large consignment of illegal English liquor worth around Rs 60 lakh from a truck near Gopalpura toll plaza on National Highway 52.

Additional Commissioner, Kota Zone, Naresh Kumar Malav said the action was taken following a tip-off. During checking and barricading operations, the truck was stopped and searched. Officials found liquor cartons hidden beneath jute sacks inside the vehicle.

The seized consignment included 1,360 cartons containing 65,280 quarter bottles of “For Sale in Chandigarh” liquor under the brand name Rajasthani Whisky.

The operation was carried out under the leadership of District Excise Officer Baran Devendra Giri, District Excise Officer Kota Vivek Sharma and Assistant Excise Officer Narayan Singh Tomar, along with the excise enforcement team.

The department stated that similar large consignments of illegal liquor had recently been seized in Hanumangarh, Udaipur and Jodhpur.

Excise Commissioner Namit Mehta said the department is following a “zero tolerance” policy against illegal liquor trade and has instructed all officials to take strict and effective action against smuggling, manufacturing and sale of liquor from other states.

He warned that accountability would be fixed in districts where effective action is not taken against illegal liquor activities.
