European Leaders Reaffirm ‘Unwavering Commitment’ to Ukraine After Trump–Zelensky Talks

Washington/London, October 18 (Udaipur Kiran): European leaders on Friday reaffirmed their steadfast support for Ukraine during a virtual meeting with President Volodymyr Zelensky, held shortly after his high-profile talks with US President Donald Trump at the White House.

In a statement issued by Britain’s Downing Street, European leaders expressed their “unwavering commitment to Ukraine in the face of continued Russian aggression.” The statement emphasized that Europe’s unity remains firm despite growing uncertainty surrounding Washington’s long-term stance on the conflict.

According to a CNN report, a Downing Street spokesperson said,

“A just and lasting peace for Ukraine is the only way to end this war permanently.”

The call was also joined by NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte, with leaders agreeing to continue discussions on how best to support Ukraine both before and after any potential ceasefire.

Earlier in the day, Trump and Zelensky met for the third time at the White House. The meeting, which lasted several hours and included Zelensky’s top aides, was described by sources as “tense and uneasy.”

During the talks, Trump reportedly ruled out supplying long-range missiles capable of striking deep inside Russia, instead urging both sides to consider a temporary ceasefire.

The exchanges highlighted the growing divergence between Washington and Kyiv over the path forward in the war, even as European nations vowed to stand firmly with Ukraine in its defense and reconstruction efforts.
