Security forces launched a cordon and search operation in Srigufwara area of the district in south Kashmir after receiving specific intelligence input about the presence of terrorists. As the joint team of forces approached the suspected spot the hiding militants fired upon government forces triggering an encounter.
The gunfight was going on when last reports came in, the official said, adding further details were awaited. As per sources two to three militants are believed to be trapped in a residential house.
