Udhampur, May 1: In a continued effort to combat the menace of narcotics in society, the Banihal police have arrested a drug trafficker and seized a substance resembling heroin. During a routine checkpoint inspection at Railway Chowk, a police team from Banihal station spotted a suspicious individual and promptly apprehended him. Upon searching, 4.54 grams of a substance resembling heroin and polythene were recovered. The individual was identified as Tauheed Ahmed Khan, son of Jan Mohammad Khan, a resident of Hamdania Colony, Bemina, Srinagar.
A case has been registered under the NDPS Act at the Banihal police station, and investigations are ongoing to uncover further links in a broader drug network. The Banihal police reaffirm their commitment to maintaining a drug-free society and urge the public to support this noble mission.
Meanwhile, in Punjab, a significant success was achieved in the ongoing campaign against narcotics. The Amritsar Counter Intelligence team arrested a drug trafficker near Adda Manawala on the Amritsar-Jalandhar highway, seizing 6 kilograms of heroin.
The DGP reported on social media platform X that initial investigations revealed the arrested suspect was operating under the instructions of a handler based in Dubai, identified as Antarpreet Singh from Sultanwind, who is already wanted in several drug trafficking cases.
According to police, this network is active internationally and has been involved in supplying drugs in Punjab. Based on the interrogation of the arrested suspect, information regarding other members of the network and the supply chain is being gathered.
An FIR has been lodged under the NDPS Act, and further investigations are underway. Police officials indicate that more arrests related to this network are likely soon, with the seized narcotics estimated to be worth crores in the international market.
