New Delhi: Kolkata Knight Riders have climbed to the top of the Indian Premier League 2024 points table
Sunil Narine showcased his batting prowess with seven fours and seven sixes to score 85 runs off 39 balls. Teenager Angish Raghuvanshi made his IPL debut scoring 54 off 27 balls and scoring a total of 104 runs off just 48 balls.
Thanks to contributions from Andre Russell (41 off 19 balls) and Ringu Singh (26 off 8 balls), Kolkata Knight Riders amassed 272/7, five runs short of the highest score in IPL history.
In reply, Delhi Capitals were bowled out for 166 in 17.2 overs. Despite captain Rishabh Ball’s heroics of 55 and Tristan Stubbs’ 54, the Capitals, suffering their third loss of the season, did not look like they were in the game.
Kolkata’s dominance with the ball continued as Vaibhav Arora and Australian pacer Mitchell Starc decimated Delhi’s top order in the powerplay by dismissing key batsmen like Prithvi Shah, Mitchell Marsh and David Warner.
Delhi bowlers played a game to remember as Kolkata Knight Riders hit 18 sixes and 28 fours to record the highest score in the team’s history. Narine and Raghuvanshi set the tone early on, taking advantage of Delhi’s weak bowling and scoring 88 runs in the power play.
While Delhi were quick to dismiss Narine and Raghuvanshi, Russell’s knock compounded their woes. The Capitals bowlers struggled to contain the Knight Riders’ aggressive attack and ended up suffering a crushing defeat.
