Hubli, February 26: Former Indian wicketkeeper-batsman Dinesh Karthik has showered praise on Jammu and Kashmir fast bowler Akib Nabi Dar, calling him a champion player. Akib showcased his skills during the Ranji Trophy final match against Karnataka at the Hubli Cricket Ground, taking three wickets.
Karthik expressed admiration for Akib’s determination, noting that he has played all matches in the tournament and has taken an impressive 58 wickets despite varying conditions.
On his social media account ‘X’, Karthik stated, “Having closely followed this Ranji Trophy season, I can confidently say that all young boys and girls aspiring to play this game and represent the country should learn from Akib. I can’t recall a bowler performing like Akib in a long time.”
Karthik believes that Akib’s focus and hard work in domestic tournaments could pave the way for him to reach the national team. He emphasized that maintaining dominance from start to finish and winning domestic tournaments single-handedly is crucial for making it to the national squad.
Karthik praised Akib’s fitness and consistency throughout the tournament, stating, “His remarkable fitness, long spells, and availability for the team despite playing on different pitches have been outstanding. Even when the pitch offered little assistance, Akib assured the team that he could take crucial wickets at any moment.”
Karthik saluted Akib Nabi, hoping he reaches the pinnacle of success in the future, and his determination, skill, and courage serve as a lesson for every young player.
In the Ranji Trophy final, Jammu and Kashmir scored 584 runs in their first innings, with Shubham Pundir making a stellar contribution of 121 runs. Captain Paras Dogra and Yawar Hasan added 70 and 88 runs, respectively. By the end of the third day, Karnataka had scored 220 runs for the loss of five wickets in their first innings, with Mayank Agarwal batting at 130 and Karthik Krishna supporting him with 27 runs. Karnataka currently trails by 364 runs.
