Varanasi, July 29: A large number of devotees gathered at the ghats of Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh, to celebrate the auspicious occasion of Guru Purnima. From early morning, devotees arrived at the banks of the Ganges to take a holy dip. After bathing in the Ganges, they performed rituals, recited mantras, and engaged in religious ceremonies. To ensure the safety of the devotees, water police and NDRF teams were deployed at the ghats.
Priest Vivekanand Pandey explained the significance of Guru Purnima, stating that it falls on the full moon day of the Shukla Paksha in the month of Ashadha. He emphasized that a guru is one who leads individuals from the darkness of ignorance to the light of knowledge. He noted that on this day, sages and saints guided people towards the path of wisdom, making this festival particularly important.
Devotees from far and wide visit Kashi on Guru Purnima. Many bring their children for a holy dip in the Ganges, praying for their bright future, education, and knowledge. They also seek blessings at the Baba Vishwanath temple for success and wisdom in life.
Mahesh, a devotee from Gomti Nagar in Lucknow, highlighted the spiritual significance of the day. He mentioned that according to tradition, Lord Bholenath takes on the burden of creation during the Chaturmas period. He added that bathing in the Ganges on Guru Purnima brings peace of mind and a sense of positive energy.
Aamar Singh, a devotee from Gorakhpur, remarked that Guru Purnima has held special significance since ancient times. It is a day to honor and express reverence for one’s guru. On this occasion, people meditate and remember their gurus.
Dinesh Chandrajoja, a devotee from Lucknow, shared his experience of bathing in the Ganges on Guru Purnima. He expressed that the experience at the ghats was wonderful, and the lesser crowd allowed for a peaceful worship experience. He noted that this day holds special importance for those receiving guru mantras, which is why he comes every year for the Ganges bath and to pay homage to his guru.
