New Delhi : Monsoon has almost fully activated across the country except for a few states. Due to heavy rains in Uttarakhand, the water level of the Ganges River suddenly rose on Saturday, washing away 8 cars.
In Delhi, on June 28, 9 inches of rain fell in 24 hours, the second highest rainfall in a day after 9.27 inches in June 1936. This has not only filled the June quota but also the quota for the last 4 months, i.e. from March.
So far, 11 people have died in Delhi in separate rain-related incidents. Five people were killed yesterday. Three laborers fell into a pit in an under-construction building on Friday night. The pit was filled with water due to rain. The bodies of all three laborers were recovered this morning.
Meanwhile, two boys drowned in the waterlogged Sirsapur underpass in Outer Delhi’s Badli area on Saturday afternoon. The body of a 60-year-old man named Digvijay Kumar Chaudhary was found in an underpass in Okhla area. It was revealed that he had been drowned in water for the past 24 hours.
The IMD has issued a heavy rain alert for 27 states on Saturday (June 29). These include Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, West Bengal, Sikkim, Odisha, Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, Goa, Maharashtra, Punjab, Delhi, Chhattisgarh, Bihar, Gujarat, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karnataka.
