New Delhi, April 25: Delhi Capitals have equaled the record for the most consecutive toss wins in the history of the Indian Premier League (IPL). Under the captaincy of Axar Patel, the team won the toss against Punjab Kings (PBKS) in the 35th match of IPL 2026 at Arun Jaitley Stadium on Saturday, opting to bat first. This marks the ninth consecutive match in which Delhi Capitals have won the toss.
This season, Delhi Capitals have secured their seventh consecutive toss win under Axar Patel’s leadership. Previously, the team won the toss in the last two matches of IPL 2025 when Faf du Plessis was the captain. With this achievement, Delhi Capitals have become the joint number one team for the most consecutive toss wins in IPL history.
In this regard, they have matched the records of Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) and Chennai Super Kings (CSK). SRH won the toss in nine consecutive matches between 2015-16, while CSK achieved the same feat in 2019.
Rajasthan Royals are also tied with CSK for the second position, having won the toss in eight consecutive matches between 2018 and 2019, and RR did the same in 2023.
Looking at the IPL 2026 points table, Delhi Capitals are currently in sixth place with three wins out of six matches, while Punjab Kings lead the table with five wins from six matches.
In the match held at Arun Jaitley Stadium on Saturday, both teams made no changes to their line-ups. Under Axar Patel’s captaincy, Delhi Capitals fielded KL Rahul (wicketkeeper), Pathum Nissanka, Sameer Rizvi, Nitish Rana, Tristan Stubbs, David Miller, Lungi Ngidi, Kuldeep Yadav, T. Natarajan, and Mukesh Kumar. On the other hand, Punjab Kings, led by Shreyas Iyer, included Prabhsimran Singh (wicketkeeper), Priyansh Arya, Cooper Connolly, Shashank Singh, Marcus Stoinis, Marco Jansen, Javier Bartlett, Vijaykumar Vaishakh, Arshdeep Singh, and Yuzvendra Chahal in their playing XI.
