Patna, August 3: The results for the Bankipur Assembly by-election in Bihar will be announced on Monday. Counting of votes will commence at 8 AM at AN College, with robust arrangements made by the police administration.
Initially, postal ballots will be counted, followed by Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) after a 30-minute interval. Results for each phase will be declared alongside the counting process. Votes cast at 422 polling stations will be counted in 30 phases, with the counting expected to conclude by around 4 PM.
According to the Election Commission, the by-election held on Thursday saw an average voter turnout of 34.16%. The Bankipur seat became vacant after BJP National President Nitin Nabin resigned following his election to the Rajya Sabha. The BJP has fielded Neeraj Kumar Sinha, while Prashant Kishor, founder of the Jan Suraj Party, is also contesting. Rekha Gupta is representing the RJD, along with 22 other candidates in the fray.
Interestingly, the BJP has not lost an election in Bankipur since 1995, with Nitin Nabin serving as the MLA for four consecutive terms. However, the outcome of this by-election will not impact the assembly, as the NDA already holds a majority in Bihar.
In light of the counting process, stringent security measures have been implemented near AN College, with police diverting traffic from several routes leading to the college.
