Hyderabad, July 16: A significant controversy has emerged in Hyderabad following a private school assigning a Hindu second-grade student the task of memorizing ‘Surah Al-Fatiha’ and ‘Kalma’ from the Quran. BJP leader T.R. Srinivas has voiced strong objections to this decision, questioning the implications for religious neutrality in education.
Speaking to reporters, Srinivas expressed his astonishment at the situation, stating, “It seems a private educational institution in Saidabad has given a non-Muslim student the task of memorizing verses from the holy Quran. I am truly surprised at what is happening in Hyderabad; is this an attempt to covertly promote religious conversion? What is the Chief Minister of Telangana doing?”
He further criticized the definition of secularism being applied, suggesting it involves attempts to convert Hindu students and non-Muslim students. “I demand a thorough investigation from the police commissioner. The education chief secretary and the education minister should come forward and make a statement. What is happening in Hyderabad? Is there a hidden agenda being implemented by the Congress? This is offensive, and the BJP demands clarification on this matter,” he added.
In response to the backlash, ‘Success the School’ in Saidabad has terminated the services of teacher Sheikh Ayesha Parveen. The school announced that her employment would end as of July 16, and she has been permanently disqualified from applying for future positions within the Success Group of educational institutions.
