New Delhi, May 13: This year, 85.20% of students passed the CBSE Class 12 board examinations. Among the various institutions, Kendriya Vidyalayas and Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas once again achieved the best results, with Kendriya Vidyalayas topping the list at a pass percentage of 98.55%. Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas followed closely with a pass percentage of 98.47%.
Government schools recorded a pass percentage of 89.55%, while government-aided schools achieved 86.07%. Eklavya Model Residential Schools saw a pass percentage of 85.55%, and independent schools had a total pass percentage of 84.20%. However, there was a noticeable decline in the results of CBSE-affiliated schools operating abroad, with a total pass percentage of 90.50% this year, down from 95.01% last year.
According to the board’s data, a total of 24,047 students registered for the examinations in 2026, with 24,009 appearing and 21,728 passing. In comparison, 21,825 students registered in 2025, with 21,782 appearing and 20,694 passing, resulting in a pass percentage of 95.01%. Although the number of candidates increased this year, the passing percentage saw a decline of approximately 4.51%.
Education experts believe that this year’s evaluation process was more transparent and technology-driven, which may have impacted the results. The board implemented a digital on-screen marking system for the evaluation of Class 12 answer sheets, aiming to enhance transparency and accuracy in the assessment process. Teachers have described the on-screen marking system as a significant improvement.
For the first time, the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) fully implemented the on-screen marking system for the 2026 Class 12 board examination evaluations. The board reported positive feedback from teachers and examiners nationwide regarding this new digital system. Educators believe this initiative is a major step towards making the examination evaluation process more transparent, precise, and modern.
According to the board, the evaluation of answer sheets through the on-screen marking system was conducted entirely on a digital platform, reducing the chances of human error and making the results more reliable. Teachers noted that the digital system has nearly eliminated the possibility of errors in scoring, ensuring a more accurate assessment of student performance. Many examiners have highlighted this as a significant step towards quality and objective evaluation.
Examiners stated that every activity in the online evaluation process is recorded, minimizing the chances of oversight or errors, thus making the entire process more transparent and accountable.
