BJP observes black day to mark 43rd anniversary of 1975 Emergency

To mark the day, Senior party leader Ravishankar Prasad held a press conference at the party headquarters. He said that press, parliament and judiciary were badly trampled during emergency.

He added that while many high courts showed exemplary courage during the testing times, the supreme court dissapointed.Ravishankar Prasad also said that dictatorial mindset of Congress has not changed  and is prevalent in its image,identity and footprint.

BJP leader Smriti Irani held a press conference in Bhubaneshwar where she said that emergency was the black day in the history of the country.

She also said that this clearly states that Congress party indulges in the politics of oppression.

Union Petroleum Minister Dharmendra Pradhan said the dictatorial mindset of the congress which was there during emergency can be seen in the present times as well. 

Senior BJP leader Prakash Javadekar held a press conference in Jaipur where he said that the government will include the whole story of Emergency in the curriculum.

He added that children should know the reality of that time.

On 25 June 1975, then President Fakhruddin Ali Ahmed officially declared Emergency on the recommendation of then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, bringing into being the blackest chapter in the country’s democracy.

Fundamental rights of citizens were suspended. Opposition leaders and activists were arrested without charge across the countryh while many other opposition leaders were arrested under the controversial Maintenance of Internal Security Act .
