Birth Anniversary of Dr. Shyama Prasad Mookerjee being observed today

Prime Minister Narendra Modi remembered Dr. Mookerjee as a fine educationist, a wonderful administrator and a stalwart who fought for India’s freedom as well as unity. Prime Minister also shared a video as a tribute.

On Dr. Mookerjee’s Anniversary – Union Minister Arun Jailtely’s has written a blog, in which he has said, “I recall forgotten chapter where his advocacy of ‘Akhand Bharat’ let Pt. Nehru to amend Constitution. Pt. Nehru amended constitution restricting Dr. Mookerjee’s free speech. Two days before signing of “Nehru-Liaquat Pact” in April, 1950, Dr. Mookerjee, resigned from Cabinet in protest and took strong public position against “Nehru-Liaquat Pact”. He spoke extensively in Parliament and outside opposing the pact.  He advocated his philosophy in brief of “Akhand Bharat”. Pt.Nehru over-reacted to his criticism . He interpreted the very idea of “Akhand Bharat” as an invitation to conflict with Pakistan.”

Floral tributes were paid to Dr. Syama Prasad Mookerjee on his Birth Anniversary at the Central Hall of Parliament. Lok Sabha Spekaer Sumitra Mahajan and Prime Minister Narendra Modi besides cabinet ministers paid floral tributes.

BJP President Amit Shah also paid floral tributes to Dr Mookerjee on his birth anniversary at the party headquarters.
