Lucknow, June 9: Police have successfully arrested a notorious criminal who attempted to assault two young women heading to an examination. The accused auto driver, Haseeb, lured the women under the pretext of taking them from Charbagh bus station to Alambagh and then took them to a secluded area near Ramleela Ground in the Para police station area, where he attempted to commit the crime. When the women resisted, he physically assaulted them, leaving them seriously injured.
Following the incident on June 8, 2026, a case was registered at Para police station under FIR number 403/2026, invoking sections 75, 76, 352, 115(2), and 118(1) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). Acting on a tip-off, the police team attempted to intercept the accused’s auto (UP32 PN 8865). The accused opened fire on the police, who retaliated in self-defense, injuring him in the leg.
The injured suspect was arrested and sent to Rani Lakshmibai Combined Hospital. The police recovered the auto used in the crime, a firearm, cartridges, and a shell casing. According to the media cell of the Lucknow Commissioner of Police, the accused, Haseeb, son of the late Sattar, is originally from Mirzapur village in the Hardoi district and was residing in the Hayder Canal area of Para.
During interrogation, it was revealed that Haseeb is a habitual offender. In 2024, he had committed a similar crime in Sandila police station, Hardoi district, where he had assaulted a woman after luring her into his auto. He had previously served time in jail for that offense.
The police stated, “We are taking this heinous crime against innocent young women very seriously. After discovering the accused’s criminal history, our team acted promptly. The police’s response during the encounter was in self-defense. We are committed to ensuring the safety of young women and will continue to take strict action against such elements.”
