New Delhi, September 5 (Kiran News) — Electric scooter maker Ather Energy has rolled out a major AtherStack 7 software update for its popular family e-scooter, the Ather Rizta Z, bringing in a surprise upgrade — touchscreen display support. The highlight is that no hardware changes are required, meaning even existing Rizta Z owners can enable the feature via an OTA (over-the-air) update.

The announcement was made by Ather CEO Tarun Mehta during the Ather Community Day 2025 event, where the company also introduced Eco Mode, a refreshed UI, and a new Terracotta Red colour option.
Touchscreen Upgrade Without Hardware Change
Although the Rizta Z was not launched as a touchscreen scooter, the display already had a hidden touch layer beneath. Initially, supply chain issues prevented Ather from enabling the feature. With those issues now resolved and customer preference leaning towards AtherStack Pro features, the company has activated the touchscreen capability via software.
New Features in AtherStack 7 Update
The OTA update brings several performance, safety, and convenience upgrades, including:
-
Natural Voice Commands – Riders can now control scooter functions, check status, or change settings hands-free.
-
Pothole Alerts – Using the onboard IMU system, the scooter detects road potholes and alerts riders via dashboard and voice prompts.
-
Crash Alerts – In case of an accident, the scooter can share the rider’s live location with emergency contacts and display details on the dashboard for nearby assistance.
-
ParkSafe – Alerts riders if they park in high-risk areas using the national tow zone database.
-
LockSafe – Detects tampering and immediately notifies the owner, with an option to remotely immobilize the scooter via the Ather app.
Infinite Cruise Feature
Another major highlight is Infinite Cruise, which combines cruise control, hill control, and crawl control. Riders can set speed with a button press, increase it with the throttle, or decrease it with braking. It even works at low speeds of 10 km/h, making it highly useful in traffic. The feature debuts on the Ather 450 Apex and will be compatible with all 2025 Apex models.
With these upgrades, Ather has further strengthened its position in India’s premium EV scooter market, enhancing both safety and smart connectivity for riders.
