Assam Government to Reward 1,000 Progressive Farmers with ₹1 Lakh Each

Guwahati, August 17: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced on Monday that the state government will honor 1,000 progressive and educated farmers with a cash prize of ₹1 lakh each under the ‘Chief Minister’s Agricultural Excellence Award’ this year.

In a media interaction, the Chief Minister stated that the initiative aims to encourage educated youth to consider agriculture as a viable and modern career option.

Sarma emphasized, “We need to attract educated youth towards farming. Therefore, we have decided to recognize 1,000 progressive and educated farmers this year. Awardees will also be informed about various government schemes related to agriculture.”

He revealed that the government plans to honor a total of 10,000 farmers over the next five years under this initiative. The program will focus on promoting modern farming techniques, strengthening agricultural research, and enhancing productivity to make farmers more self-reliant.

Additionally, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced plans to create a dedicated ‘Youth Welfare Department’ to bring various youth-related programs under a single administrative framework. This proposed department will encompass the National Cadet Corps (NCC), National Service Scheme (NSS), employment exchanges, and initiatives related to education for the youth. It is expected to be launched around Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s birthday on September 17.

The Chief Minister also mentioned that the government will initiate ‘Project Sadbhavana 2’ from October 2 to January 31, aimed at identifying and resolving pending government files. Over three lakh files are currently pending across various departments, directorates, and deputy commissioner’s offices.

Citizens will be able to report pending issues through a special portal, which will then be forwarded to the relevant authorities for action. The previous manual effort in 2021 will be upgraded with an e-file system for better tracking and analysis of pending cases.
