Guwahati, August 8: Akhil Gogoi, the president of the Raijor Dal and a legislator, has called for the removal of Minister Bimal Borah from his position as the Guardian Minister of Sivasagar. Gogoi accused Borah of significant mismanagement and political bias in distributing flood relief materials in the Sivasagar and Charaideo districts.
Speaking to reporters, Gogoi claimed that there has been discrimination in the relief efforts. He alleged that many genuine families affected by the floods did not receive government assistance, while some who were not entitled to aid did receive it.
Gogoi pointed out that during the initial days of the flood crisis, leaders from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) were absent, while Raijor Dal workers were actively engaged in rescue and relief operations. He stated that BJP officials only became involved when public attention turned to these activities.
The Raijor Dal leader further accused Minister Bimal Borah of distributing relief materials through BJP workers and party-affiliated ward members instead of adopting a transparent and fair process. He also alleged that a BJP ward member misused the relief materials sent for flood victims.
Despite local residents bringing the issue of mismanagement to light, Gogoi claimed that no action was taken against the accused. Instead, he alleged that the individual who raised the issue was arrested.
Questioning the implementation of the state’s flood relief program, Gogoi alleged that political factors influenced the selection of beneficiaries in Sivasagar and Charaideo. He claimed that many needy families did not receive the ₹15,000 financial assistance announced by the Assam government for flood-affected families.
Gogoi urged Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma to ensure that the list of beneficiaries is prepared by impartial officials rather than political party workers.
