Itanagar, June 24: The Governor of Arunachal Pradesh, Lieutenant General K.T. Parnaik (Retd.), held a detailed discussion on the current law and order situation in the state with Home Minister Mama Natung on Wednesday. The conversation particularly focused on recent events at the North Eastern Regional Institute of Science and Technology (NERIST).
An official from the Raj Bhavan reported that the Home Minister met with the Governor, during which both leaders reviewed the law and order situation in Arunachal Pradesh and discussed the recent incident at NERIST, located near Itanagar in Nirjuli.
Expressing deep concern over the unfortunate incident, the Governor stated that NERIST is one of the premier technical and higher education institutions in the northeastern region. The incident has raised serious concerns regarding the functioning and environment of the institution.
He emphasized that educational institutions should be safe and conducive to learning. Additionally, he highlighted the responsibility of all stakeholders to uphold the sanctity, dignity, and reputation of educational institutions across the state.
In expressing his sorrow over the incident, Lieutenant General Parnaik called for a fair investigation into allegations of intimidation and coercion against the director of NERIST by certain groups.
He remarked that such incidents set a poor example for the youth and should be addressed appropriately under the law.
Stressing the importance of better functioning and administration of institutions, he stated that the management and administration of educational institutions should be based on principles of merit, integrity, dignity, discipline, transparency, and accountability.
He further asserted that any actions that undermine the functioning, credibility, or harmony of educational institutions should be dealt with strictly and in accordance with the law to maintain public trust in the state’s educational system.
The Home Minister assured the Governor that the state government is taking the matter very seriously and will conduct a thorough investigation into the incident. He stated that appropriate action would be taken against those found guilty after the investigation is completed.
