Previous reports suggested that the new iPad Pro could benefit from an M3 chipset and thinner bezels. Apple is also expected to unveil a new iPad Air with a 12.9-inch display and an M2 chipset.
According to a report from DigiTimes Asia (via MacRumors), mass production of camera lenses for future iPad models has been “repeatedly delayed.” The report cited Taiwanese suppliers as a source of information and stressed that this could cause minimal delays. However, it is said that mass production could begin in May. It’s not yet clear what the start of mass production means, but another report suggests that Apple’s iPad range could be unveiled as early as May.
Bloomberg’s Mark Garman recently suggested that the next generation of iPad Pro and iPad Air models could launch as early as May, saying the products could launch in March or early April. My previous guess has been corrected. Garman, citing people in the know, said this delay was due to the device’s software not being finalized. “Complex manufacturing techniques” for the device’s new display were also cited as a reason for the delay.
The Bloomberg report also mentions that four new iPad Pro models may be launched this year. All models, codenamed J717, J718, J720 and J721, are said to feature a new OLED display, an M3 chipset, an improved rear camera module, a horizontal front camera and support for MagSafe wireless charging.
Additionally, the Pro model will feature thinner bezels and a slimmer body and will also be available in “glossy and matte screen versions.” The 11-inch version is expected to come with a 7.12mm thick frame, while the 12.9-inch version is likely to come with a 7.08mm thick frame.
The iPad Air model, on the other hand, supports the M2 chipset and has a horizontal front camera. The biggest upgrade, however, is said to be the first 12.9-inch model in the iPad Air series.
