The iPad Air is Apple’s mid-range tablet, more powerful than the original iPad but cheaper than the high-end iPad Pro. Rumor has it that the Air will receive some upgrades this year and may even be available in a new size. Here’s what you can expect from the next iPad Air.
Larger screen options
One of the most anticipated changes to the iPad Air is the addition of a 12.9-inch display option. Previously, the iPad Air was only available in the 10.9-inch size. But in the future, Apple will sell the Air in a standard 10.9-inch model and a new 12.9-inch version.
There were previously rumors that the 12.9-inch Air model might feature a mini-LED display, but sources have now refuted that rumor and say both sizes will feature Retina displays.
Faster M2 chip
In addition to the new screen size, the iPad Air 2024 has significantly improved performance thanks to Apple’s M2 processor chip. The current Air uses the old M1 chip, so the jump to the M2 is a speed boost.
Other new features are also expected
Aside from a larger screen, an M2 chip, and a mini-LED display, the new Air will likely have some nice upgrades. Expect a redesigned rear camera with LED flash and support for the latest accessories like the Magic Keyboard and an updated Apple Pencil.
There are also rumors about the addition of a new horizontal front camera. This means you can finally make FaceTime video calls in landscape mode on your iPad without the hassle of cropping.
Best value ever?
If all the rumored changes are well received, the 2024 iPad Air range could offer unbeatable value for money compared to the more expensive iPad Pro models. You get significant performance, a nice big screen, and new accessories, all for a few hundred dollars less than the Pro.
The 10.9-inch iPad Air should cost around $599 or more. There is currently no information about the price of the larger 12.9-inch model.
