Android 15 out to devs, Snapdragon 6 Gen 3 is here, Week 36 in review

Another week has passed, so let’s wrap it up. Google has released Android 15 to developers and Pixels will receive the update in “a few weeks.” Other manufacturers should also update their roadmaps soon.

Qualcomm introduced Snapdragon 6 3rd generation. The company seems to have forgotten that there will be no 2nd generation of the 4nm chip and will use the new mid-range Snapdragon 6 Gen 1 platform. Snapdragon 6 Gen 3 improves AI performance for tasks like activity tracking and call noise cancellation. This chip is very similar to the Snapdragon 7s Gen 2, but has some compromises in the CPU and display.

The choice of chips for the Galaxy S25 family has been a topic of discussion in recent weeks. First we heard that the problem was only with Exynos, then we learned in two separate reports that we can expect Snapdragon everywhere. Now another rumor comes from Samsung’s home country of South Korea, confirming the Snapdragon victory.

The Galaxy S25, Galaxy S25 Plus and Galaxy S25 Ultra are all said to be equipped with Qualcomm’s 4th generation Snapdragon 8. This appears to have been done to “maximize the performance” of the S25 series. The Exynos 2500 will instead power the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Galaxy Z Flip 7, which launch in the second half of next year. This is an interesting development as foldable devices are traditionally based on Snapdragon chips.

We’ve seen the first renders of the special edition Samsung Galaxy Z Fold. The phone is significantly thinner than the current Galaxy Z Fold6, has a matte finish on the back and has a slightly different camera island. One of the lenses looks like a periscope zoom, and a 200-megapixel main camera is expected. Unfortunately, there are rumors that this phone will be released exclusively in China and South Korea.

The IFA started this week. The most important announcements include the octa-core processor Snapdragon Honor also introduced a version of the MagicBook Art 14 with Snapdragon X Elite.

Finally, Huawei’s Mate XT Triple was photographed in the wild, following which the company released its teaser.
