Anandpal opened fire, encounter was the only option before us- Kataria

Udaipur : Home Minister Gulab Chand Kataria said Gangster Anandpal didn’t leave any option before the police and hence was encountered, though we had wanted him to be caught alive. “ The team that went to arrest him had covered the entire area, they were on the ground. Cops kept asking him to surrender but he climbed on the house’s terrace and opened fire at our men with an AK-47. In that circumstances, what was expected, should we have stood with folded arms and let him kill our men?”

Kataria said while speaking to the media on Sunday here at the BJP office at Patel Circle. The Home Minister said, the operation had been a secret and even he didn’t have any idea of the encounter. “ I go to sleep around 10.30pm generally. I got a call from CM at 11.45 who congratulated me for the success. I asked what for and then she informed that the notorious gangster has been killed” Kataria claimed. The Home Minister said that Anandpal had become a big headache for the state police since he escaped from their custody months ago. “ The police located his brothers first and finally came to know about Anandpal’s hideout. Our team did every possible effort to catch him alive but he left no option.

One of our inspectors got his leg fractured while trying to climb the stairs to catch him” Kataria said. When asked whether there was any pressure from the center to nab the gangster, the home minister said we were put under scanner by the national and international media after the gangster fled from the police custody. “ I had firm belief that one day he would be caught and finally his run came to an end.  The SOG team gave their best and the Haryana police also helped us in the operation” the minister informed.
