Amazon Prime Video to Reduce Device Access: New Limits and Deadline Announced

23 Dec 2024 9:12 AM by Bhupendra Singh Chundawat

Amazon Prime Video is set to introduce significant changes to its account-sharing policies, aligning with industry trends. Following Netflix’s recent crackdown on password sharing, Amazon Prime Video will reduce the number of devices users can simultaneously log into starting January 2025. This policy aims to enhance security and encourage individual subscriptions.

New Device Access Limits

  • Current Limit: Up to 10 devices per account.
  • New Limit: Reduced to 5 devices.
  • Smart TV Restriction: A maximum of 2 smart TVs per account.

Users will retain the ability to manage devices by logging out of inactive ones to free up slots. This updated approach mirrors Netflix’s strategy, including limiting access to primary devices on the same network.

Amazon Prime Subscription Plans

Amazon Prime continues to offer a variety of subscription options to suit diverse user needs:

  • Annual Plan: ₹1,499 (includes Prime Video, Prime Music, and other Prime benefits).
  • Three-Month Plan: ₹599.
  • Monthly Plan: ₹299.
  • Mobile Edition Plan: A budget-friendly option limited to smartphone access for Prime Video.

Despite these changes, Prime Video users will continue to enjoy exclusive content, ad-free music, and expedited delivery services as part of their subscription.

What Users Should Know

This move signals a growing trend among OTT platforms to tighten account-sharing policies, promoting individual subscriptions. Amazon’s decision to implement a device limit aims to balance user convenience with security, ensuring fair usage.

Preparing for the Shift

Subscribers are advised to:

  1. Review their logged-in devices via the Prime Video app or website.
  2. Log out of devices no longer in use to manage the reduced device limit effectively.
  3. Communicate with shared account members to minimize disruptions.

With this update, Amazon joins the ranks of platforms optimizing account usage to provide a seamless, high-quality streaming experience.
