Akshar Patel Downplays Rivalry After Victory Against Pakistan

Colombo, February 16: The Indian cricket team secured a 61-run victory over Pakistan in a match held in Colombo on Sunday. Following the win, all-rounder Akshar Patel emphasized that the focus was on cricket rather than any rivalry between the two nations.

Akshar stated, “Our focus during the match against Pakistan was entirely on executing our plans, which proved successful.” He added that the team was not preoccupied with comparisons like India’s batting against Pakistan’s bowling. Instead, they concentrated on following their strategy throughout the game.

“We were thinking about the match against a team, not about any rivalry. Whenever I play, I don’t think about others. I don’t focus on rivalries or anything of that sort,” he remarked.

He also acknowledged the support from the crowd in Colombo, mentioning that they receive backing from fans wherever they play, including Australia and England. “In the West Indies last time, we also had support. Our fans support us everywhere,” he noted.

Praising Ishan Kishan’s performance, who scored 77 runs, Akshar said, “I think it was one of his outstanding innings, as it wasn’t easy. The ball was turning, and some were coming straight in certain lights, making it challenging. Ishan has both confidence and skill, and he played shots all around.”

Akshar Patel contributed significantly with the ball, taking 2 wickets for 29 runs in 4 overs, dismissing Babar Azam and Usman Khan. In the match, India batted first, scoring 175 runs for 7 wickets, while Pakistan was bowled out for 114 runs in 18 overs, losing the match by a significant margin of 61 runs.
