Udaipur : The Debari railway tunnel at the entry to the City of Lake Udaipur bears testimony to both history and heritage. Debari tunnel 590 m of 2005 vintage had 13m rails with 130 welds inside the tunnel making it vulnerable to Rail fracture inside the tunnel. The 1889-built tunnel, located at Debari, is the longest railway tunnel in the state.

By meticulous planning, replacement done by 6 panels of 260 m each inside tunnel which is in an S curve. Now only 4 welds remain inside the tunnel. This will immensely help in improving Safety of tracks inside the tunnel, said Puneet Chawla DRM Ajmer.

We are also replacing over aged tracks at a fast pace.50 kms of track is targeted for replacement this financial year. This work is currently in progress in Abu Road-Palanpur section, he added. Apart from this there are 15 level crossing gates which will be closed by providing RUB's and 4 will be eliminated by manning. Other 24 unmanned level crossing gates have Home Guards called Gate Mitras to stop road vehicles when train is approaching the gates. These gates will also be eliminated by September 2018.
