Udaipur : Flyers heading to Maharana Pratap airport here, experienced anxious moments on Wednesday noonas traffic came to a standstill on Debari-Dabok stretch on the National Highway-76 near the power house. An acid laden truck turned turtle and one side of the four lane was completely blocked resulting in two to three kilometre jam which lasted over two hours. The leaking acid’s fumes spread in the area, prompting authorities to disperse the crowd and immediately calling petroleum company for help.
The truck driver was badly injured after getting stuck inside the chamber and could be rescued only after a crane arrived to cut open the gate. Airport authorities reported a flurry of calls to airlines from stranded passengers but said there were no instances of anyone having missing their flight. Traffic police had a tough time in clearing the traffic as both the vehicles blocked the road. However, no casualties were reported in the truck accident. “ The truck was transporting Nitric acid from Ahmedabad to Uttar Pradesh and the accident happened when the truck driver turned the steering suddenly to prevent a collision with a bus moving ahead” police said. Panic hit the area as the acid started leaking and the fume engulfed the area. The firemen and disaster management cell personnel of the petroleum company rushed to the site to contain the situation. The truck driver has sustained injuries and admitted in the civil hospital, his condition was stable by evening, police informed.
