Abhishek Sharma Struggles Again in T20 World Cup

Ahmedabad, February 18: Indian opener Abhishek Sharma faced another disappointing performance in the T20 World Cup 2026, failing to score for the third consecutive match. During the Group A match against the Netherlands at the Narendra Modi Stadium on Wednesday, Abhishek was bowled out on the third ball of the innings, marking his third ‘duck’ in the tournament.

Abhishek’s struggles began in the tournament’s opening match against the USA, where he was dismissed on the very first ball. He missed the subsequent game against Namibia due to a stomach infection but returned to play against Pakistan, only to be caught out on the fourth ball.

The 25-year-old has managed to score just 98 runs in his last seven T20 international innings, with four of those innings ending without a score.

Despite Abhishek’s challenges, the Indian team has secured a spot in the Super 8 stage of the T20 World Cup 2026 with three consecutive victories. They won their first match against the USA by 29 runs, followed by a 93-run victory over Namibia, and a 61-run win against Pakistan.

On the other hand, after suffering a three-wicket loss to Pakistan, Scotland recorded a seven-wicket victory against Namibia but faced a 93-run defeat against the USA afterward.

Under the captaincy of Suryakumar Yadav, the Indian team featured Ishan Kishan (wicketkeeper), Abhishek Sharma, Tilak Varma, Hardik Pandya, Shivam Dubey, Rinku Singh, Washington Sundar, Varun Chakravarthy, Jasprit Bumrah, and Arshdeep Singh.

Meanwhile, Scott Edwards led the Netherlands, taking on wicketkeeping responsibilities alongside players such as Michael Levitt, Max O’Dowd, Bas de Leede, Colin Ackermann, Jack Leyden-Cashat, Roelof van der Merwe, Logan van Beek, Aryan Dutt, Kyle Klein, and Noah Croes.
