8th Pay Commission: Basic Salary at Fitment Factors 2.0, 2.15, 2.28 and 2.57

New Delhi, October 6, 2026 (Udaipur Kiran): The 8th Pay Commission is set to begin its next round of meetings with employee organisations and other stakeholders from October 7 in Bengaluru, Karnataka. The commission is also seeking employee-related data from different departments and ministries as it works on its report.

8th Pay Commission

The report will include recommendations on changes in the salaries and pensions of central government employees. Once the government notifies the report, employees are expected to receive arrears for the delayed notification period along with revised salaries based on the new fitment factor.

What Are Employee Organisations Demanding?

The National Council-Joint Consultative Machinery (NC-JCM), a major central government employees’ organisation, has recommended a 3.833 fitment factor to the 8th Pay Commission.

If this recommendation is accepted, the minimum salary of Rs 18,000 under the 7th Pay Commission could rise to Rs 69,000 under the 8th Pay Commission.

Several organisations, including AIDEF, FNPO and AINPSEF, have also supported a fitment factor of around 3.83. IRTSA has suggested a 5.0 fitment factor for different pay levels.

What Could Be the Fitment Factor?

Manjeet Singh Patel, National President of AINSPEF, said there is a strong possibility of a 2.1 fitment factor in the 8th Pay Commission based on the current Dearness Allowance and other salary-related factors.

However, the actual fitment factor will only be known after the government notifies the recommendations of the Pay Commission.

Under the 7th Pay Commission, the minimum basic salary for Level 6 is Rs 35,400, while it is Rs 44,900 for Level 7 and Rs 47,600 for Level 8.
