7 from Banswara and Dungarpur Killed as Sleeper Bus Crashes into Parked Truck Near Vadodara

DUNGARPUR, June 17 (Udaipur Kiran) : Seven people from Banswara and Dungarpur districts, including a nine-year-old child, were killed and 27 others injured in a road accident that occurred in Vadodara city of Gujarat early Wednesday morning.

A Balaji Travels sleeper bus travelling from Banswara to Surat collided with a truck parked on the roadside near Kotambi Stadium in Vadodara. Most of the passengers were asleep when the accident took place.

The impact of the collision was so severe that the front portion of the bus was completely damaged.

According to information, the accident occurred at around 4:00 am. Following the crash, panic and chaos spread inside the bus, and several passengers became trapped in the vehicle.

After receiving information, teams from the police, SDRF, NDRF and Vadodara Fire Department reached the spot.

NDRF 6th Battalion Commandant Surendra Singh said the control room received information about the accident at 4:40 am. Rescue teams used modern equipment and cutting machines to extricate trapped passengers from the bus. All injured passengers were shifted to hospital.

The deceased have been identified as Pinky Bhatia (36) of Padwa in Dungarpur district, Preet (9), daughter of Hitesh Bhatia and resident of Tamtia in Dungarpur, Mahendra Kumar (68), son of Bhogilal Pandya and resident of Dungarpur, Vinod (30), son of Naresh Damor and resident of Sagwara in Dungarpur, bus driver Mukesh (34), son of Jivaji Dindor and resident of Rajwada in Dungarpur, Harjingbhai Valjibhai Katara (30), and one unidentified person.

Payal Nai (35), mother of Preet, sustained injuries in the accident. Following the news of the child’s death and the woman’s injuries, family members left for Vadodara. According to the report, there are four Bhatia community households in the village and all belong to the same family.

The injured include Payal Nai, Pinky Rawal, Manisha Rawal, Ramchandra Doriya, Shilpa Patidar, Mahendra Katara, Ashish Yadav, Ashish Katara, Bansilal Rane, Jivrajbhai, Gunjanben, Narachaya, Pintu Charpot, Vijay Katara, Bherulal Meena, Seema Yadav, Sagar Katara, Bhagwati Bhai, Kalpesh Gaur, Pailben Nai, Sheel, Sureshbhai Dindor, Rameshbhai, Pankajbhai Charpot, Kamleshbhai Katara, Mayaben Patidar and other passengers.

RMO Dr Hitendra Singh Chauhan of SSG Hospital, Vadodara, said 27 injured persons were brought to the hospital after the accident. Two of them are in critical condition and have been admitted to the ICU. Teams of doctors and nursing staff are on alert.
