Udaipur : In a major breakthrough, Udaipur police has solved the murder case of Yashwant Sharma (55) the excise official who was abducted and killed before his daughter and grandson in a moving van in the wee hours of Thursday. “Five youths including a minor have been arrested while one of the accused, the van driver, is absconding, we have seized the van in which the official was killed. Four of them were directly involved in the crime, while two helped them in conspiring” Udaipur SP RajendraPrasad Goyal said in a press conference on Saturday.
Yashwant Sharma was not an intentional target as the main motive of the men was to loot any of the helpless passengers in the busstand area in the wee hours but the excise’s officers poor decision of accepting the ride offer with unknown people proved fatal for him and caused grief to his family. The officer said, the brutal killing had come as a big shock for the citizens and we had taken it on top priority to catch the culprits so that people maintain their trust on us and we managed to nab them within 48 hours with the help of the entire city force including 3 additional SPs, two DySPs and 10 circle inspectors.
Sharma had taken his daughter Neha for a checkup at an Ahmedabad hospital and had reached back Udaipur on Thursday around 1am. They got down at the bus stand in Udiapole, Neha’s 5 year old son Vihan too was with them and unable to find an autorickshaw, they were walking towards Surajpole when a van stopped near them and the driver offered a ride. ” The driver Deepak Oad asked them if they were going to Nathdwara and when Sharma said they wanted to go to Hiranmagri, Deepak said he would drop them. Seeing three other men seated inside, Sharma was hesitant, but Deepak said that they too were passengers going to different places and so the old man got inside with his family” Goyal said. Instead of taking the straight road, when the driver took a turn from the Fisheries college, Sharma sensed wrong and he opposed. He shouted for help and tried to jump off the van and so to control him Jagdish Oad , one of the accused stabbed him multiple times.
The men snatched Neha’s mobile and purse and dumped them some meters ahead and vanished in the dark. ” The woman told us that because of darkness, she couldnt see the van’s number except for first four letters that indicated a Gujarat registration. We made several teams that searched almost all the motor garages, parking slots, public places, we pressed in our informers to work, observed CCTV footages and finally came to know that four men in a similar van had gone to Kanod after the murder” Goyal said. The suspects were lifted and put to thorough interrogation who finally confessed their crime. Jagdish aka Darbar resident of Mallatalai (27), Rama aka Ramesh Ravat (19) resident of Kanod, Rajmal Lohar (24) resident Dungla, Ganesh Meena (27) resident Kanod and a minor have been arrested of which Rajmal and Ganesh were not involved directly while Deepak is absconding. The culprits would be produced before the court on Sunday, Dysp Bhagwat Singh Hingad said. The blood samples taken from the vehicle would be sent to the forensic lab for investigation, he said.
