Bhilai : A bus carrying about 40 employees of Kedia Distillery from Kumhari to Bhilai fell into a 20-foot deep murum mine last night around 9 pm in Durg district of Chhattisgarh. 15 people have died in this accident. President Draupadi Murmu, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Vishnudev Sai have expressed grief over the accident.

According to administrative and company officials, 11 people died on the spot. Four of the other injured died in the hospital. City Superintendent of Police (Cantonment Area) Harish Patil said that the scene of the accident suggests that the bus overturned after falling down. DM Richa Prakash Chaudhary said that rescue operation was started as soon as the information was received. All the injured admitted in the hospital are being provided the best possible care. A magisterial inquiry is being conducted to ascertain the cause of the accident.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has expressed grief over the accident and wished the injured a speedy recovery. President Draupadi Murmu has expressed deep condolences to all the bereaved families. Kedia Distillery Company has announced an ex-gratia payment of Rs 10 lakh each to the families of the deceased, a job to one member and to bear the entire expenses of the injured. The company has said that the injured have been admitted to AIIMS, Apex Om and other hospitals.
The accident has raised questions about the safety of workers in the mining industry. The Chhattisgarh government has ordered a probe into the accident and has announced a compensation of Rs 2 lakh each to the families of the deceased.
