WhatsApp Explores Personalised AI avatars with new development

WhatsApp Explores Personalised AI

WhatsApp is working on a new feature that will allow users to create their own personal AI avatars that can be placed in different virtual environments.

According to The Verge, the feature discovered in the WhatsApp beta for version 2.24.14.7 uses a combination of user-provided images, text messages and the Llama Meta AI model to generate these custom avatars.

According to screenshots obtained by The Verge, users can imagine themselves in any environment, from the forest to outer space.

The images generated are reportedly reminiscent of images created by popular AI generators such as Lensa AI and Snapchat’s “Dreams” selfie feature.
To generate these personalized avatars, WhatsApp users must first send a photo of themselves. It serves as a reference image for the meta-AI.

Users can then enter a command such as “Imagine me” in a Meta AI chat, followed by a description of the desired setting, or use “Meta AI Imagine me…” in other WhatsApp conversations.

This feature is optional and users need to enable it manually in their WhatsApp settings.

Additionally, users always have the option to delete reference images stored in their Meta AI settings to ensure privacy and control over their personal data.

Despite its innovative potential, there is no concrete timeline for general availability of this new AI avatar feature. WhatsApp continues to support AI meta-chatbots and real-time AI image generation capabilities, especially in the US.

So, according to The Verge, the rollout of the AI avatar feature could be rolled out in phases as WhatsApp and Meta explore the intricacies surrounding generative AI tools.

Given the previous challenges with generative AI technology, Meta appears to be taking a cautious approach to ensure the performance and security of this upcoming feature.

As development progresses, WhatsApp users can look forward to new levels of personalization and creativity in their messaging experience, powered by advanced AI capabilities.
