Ranchi, August 10: Amid ongoing protests against alleged irregularities and paper leaks in recruitment examinations in Jharkhand, students have announced a siege of the assembly on August 10. A large number of students have started arriving in Ranchi from various districts ahead of the planned assembly siege. They are gathering at the Jaipal Singh Munda Stadium, with many students opting to spend the night within the stadium premises.
The increasing crowd of students in the stadium is evident, with many seen resting on the volleyball court and other areas. The protesting students have stated that a significant number will participate in the assembly siege on Monday to pressure the government regarding their demands.
The students have declared that their movement will continue until all their major demands are met, particularly insisting on the cancellation of the Jharkhand Staff Selection Commission (JSSC) CGL examination.
The student protests have been ongoing for the past 16 days due to alleged irregularities in the Jharkhand Public Service Commission (JPSC) and JSSC recruitment examinations. On Sunday, the government held a third round of talks with student representatives, during which it accepted several important demands.
In light of the protests and allegations of irregularities, the government decided to cancel the 14th JPSC civil service preliminary examination. Additionally, it agreed to investigate financial transactions related to previous examinations conducted by the controversial vendor agency TSR Data Processing Private Limited through the Enforcement Directorate (ED).
However, the government did not concede to the demand for the cancellation of the JSSC CGL examination, opting instead to conduct a judicial inquiry into the allegations associated with it. This issue has led to continued discontent among students, prompting the announcement of the assembly siege.
The state government has stated that many of the students’ key demands have already been accepted and that canceling the CGL examination is not feasible. The government has also appealed to the protesting students to end their demonstration.
Meanwhile, Minister Sudivya Kumar has stated that the government will implement comprehensive policy reforms to ensure future recruitment examinations are completely transparent and free from irregularities. A high-level committee will be formed, which will include experts and student representatives.
During the discussions, ministers reached out to fasting student leader Devendra Nath Mahto via video call, urging him to end his hunger strike, but he has decided to continue the fast for now.
