Baghdad, June 8: The Iraqi Shia militia ‘Kata’ib Hezbollah’ has issued a warning that it will target American military bases in Iraq and across the region if the United States engages in any military action against Iran.
In a brief statement released on their website, the group stated, “If the US intervenes in this conflict, we will attack its bases and interests in Iraq and the region.”
This warning comes at a time when Iran launched multiple missiles towards Israel on Sunday evening, triggering air raid sirens in large parts of northern Israel. The Israeli military reported that it intercepted these missile attacks. Meanwhile, Iraq’s Civil Aviation Authority announced a temporary closure of the country’s airspace for 72 hours.
The missile attacks caused sirens to sound in several areas of northern Israel, but there have been no reports of injuries or significant damage.
Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) stated that it targeted Israel’s Ramat David airbase with ballistic missiles in retaliation for what it termed Israel’s “extensive crimes” in Lebanon.
According to Iran’s semi-official news agency Fars, Ali Abdollahi, the commander of Iran’s Khatam al-Anbia Central Headquarters, warned on Sunday night that if Israel escalates its attacks on southern Lebanon and the Dahieh area south of Beirut or responds to Iran’s actions, it would face even “tougher and regretful” attacks.
On the other hand, Israel conducted strikes on military bases in western and central Iran early Monday morning. Following the missile barrage from Iran, Israel initiated its own counterattacks. The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) claimed that the Israeli Air Force carried out airstrikes on military installations in western and central Iran. According to IRNA, citing Tehran’s firefighting department, residents of western Tehran reported hearing two explosions around 4:43 AM and 4:45 AM. However, no explosions were confirmed in any urban areas of the city.
