Rising Number of BJP Women Legislators in Assam Reflects Public Trust: Ajanta Neog

Guwahati, May 7: Assam’s Finance Minister Ajanta Neog stated on Thursday that the increasing number of women legislators elected on BJP tickets in the Assam Assembly elections symbolizes the growing trust of the public in the party’s government and leadership.

In a conversation with journalists, Neog highlighted that this time, the BJP achieved a significantly larger victory margin in the state compared to previous elections, which she termed a “historic mandate.” She credited this success to the party leadership and the hard work of workers at all levels.

“This time, the victory margin has increased considerably. It is a historic mandate, and the credit goes to the BJP’s leadership and workers who have worked diligently at every level,” Neog said.

She congratulated party workers for their extensive campaigning and organizational efforts during the elections. Neog noted that Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma’s leadership played a crucial role in strengthening public support for the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government.

She emphasized that the welfare schemes and development initiatives launched by the state government in recent years have directly benefited the common people, thereby enhancing their trust in the BJP.

“The government’s policies and welfare schemes have reached the common citizens directly, which is why people’s trust in the BJP has increased,” Neog added.

This time, seven women legislators have been elected on BJP tickets, compared to five in the previous assembly.

Referring to the Women’s Reservation Bill, she expressed disappointment that the law had not yet been enacted, despite hopes for its early passage.

“We had hoped that the Women’s Reservation Bill would be passed by now, but unfortunately, that has not happened,” she stated.

Neog accused opposition parties, particularly the Congress and some of its allies, of not taking women’s political participation seriously. She praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s initiatives for women’s empowerment and asserted that the proposed reservation system would play a significant role in increasing women’s participation in politics.

Ajanta Neog expressed confidence that greater participation of women in legislatures would strengthen the democratic process and policy-making in the future.
