PM Modi Expresses Condolences Over Jabalpur Cruise Tragedy

Jabalpur, May 1: Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his sorrow on Friday over the tragic cruise accident that occurred at the Bargi Dam in Jabalpur district, Madhya Pradesh. The death toll has risen to nine, with at least four passengers still missing.

In a post on the social media platform X, the Prime Minister described the loss of life and property as “extremely tragic” and extended his condolences to the affected families. He also wished for the speedy recovery of the injured.

PM Modi wrote, “The loss of life and property due to the cruise capsizing in Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh, is extremely tragic. I express my condolences to those who have lost their loved ones in this unfortunate incident. I pray for the quick recovery of the injured. The local administration is assisting the affected individuals.”

Additionally, the Prime Minister announced financial assistance for the victims. He stated that the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund (PMNRF) would provide two lakh rupees to the family of each deceased and fifty thousand rupees to the injured.

Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai also expressed his grief on social media, calling the news of the cruise accident in Jabalpur “extremely sad and painful.” He extended his heartfelt condolences to the families of the deceased and prayed for the departed souls to find peace and for the bereaved families to have the strength to bear this unbearable loss.

The Indian Army has also taken charge of locating the missing passengers. In collaboration with civil authorities and disaster relief teams, the Army has initiated a search operation. Following a request from the district administration, the Army’s ‘Central India Area’ promptly launched a Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief (HADR) operation.

A junior commissioned officer and 13 trained divers from the Shatrujeet Brigade were airlifted to Jabalpur and deployed at the accident site.

On Friday, the Army stated in an official release that search and rescue operations are being conducted in close coordination with civil administration, NDRF, and SDRF teams. Despite the extremely challenging underwater conditions, our personnel are working around the clock to locate the missing passengers and assist in rescue efforts.
