Bollywood actress Huma Qureshi has added another feather to her cap—she is now a published author. During a candid conversation about her book, Qureshi opened up about her admiration for rebellious and unapologetic women, a theme she has intricately woven into her novel’s protagonist.

While discussing her book’s lead character, Huma Qureshi revealed that the protagonist is far from the conventional, well-mannered, or universally likable woman. Instead, she proudly described her as bold, brash, and uninhibited.
“I absolutely love the concept of ‘rebellious women’. I am tired of society dictating how women should dress, walk, talk, or behave. That’s why I find ‘bad girls’ so fascinating,” she said.

Qureshi made it clear that she embraces her unapologetic nature. Speaking about her writing process, she explained that real-life women often struggle with societal expectations, which hinder their true self-expression.
“There are so many barriers when it comes to expressing our authentic selves. If people could actually hear what goes on in our minds, they would be shocked—yet they’d also find it thrilling. That’s exactly what I wanted to bring into my book,” she shared.
She further elaborated that, on the surface, her novel’s protagonist might seem like someone unfamiliar, but in reality, she represents the collective experiences of all women.
“True Freedom Will Come When Gender Bias Ends”
Reflecting on women’s empowerment and societal expectations, Qureshi emphasized that true freedom will only be achieved when women’s choices and identities are accepted without gender-based judgments.
“Everything comes down to how society chooses to view women. A person’s preferences should not be defined by their gender. The greatest freedom, for me, will be the day people are accepted for who they truly are—beyond the labels of man or woman,” she declared.
