Guwahati, May 12: Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan described May 12 as a ‘historic day’ for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) as Himanta Biswa Sarma prepares for his swearing-in ceremony. Chouhan stated that the party’s return to power in Assam for the third time with a significant majority reflects the public’s trust in Prime Minister Modi and the National Democratic Alliance’s development agenda.
Upon arriving in Guwahati for Sarma’s swearing-in ceremony scheduled for Tuesday, Chouhan spoke to reporters, emphasizing that the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance’s continuous governance in Assam marks a significant political achievement.
He remarked, “These are extraordinary days. The BJP has formed the government for the third consecutive time with a record-breaking majority. This is a victory of public trust in Prime Minister Modi, a victory of development, and a victory for public welfare.”
Chouhan also launched a sharp attack on the Congress party, accusing it of becoming a ‘communal party.’ He added, “Congress has now turned into a communal party. Under Himanta Biswa Sarma’s leadership, Assam has witnessed remarkable development. With the blessings and guidance of Prime Minister Modi, the state is moving towards a safe and developed Assam, contributing to the dream of a developed India.”
The minister congratulated the people of Assam and the leadership of the National Democratic Alliance on their electoral victory, expressing confidence that the new government will accelerate development projects in the northeastern state.
Himanta Biswa Sarma’s swearing-in ceremony as Chief Minister for the second consecutive time will take place on Tuesday at Khanapara in Guwahati. Several senior BJP leaders, including Union ministers and chief ministers from NDA-ruled states, are expected to attend the event.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, and Defence Minister Rajnath Singh are also likely to be present at the swearing-in ceremony, which BJP leaders have described as a significant political opportunity for the party in the northeast.
