Jammu, 3 September (Kiran News): Northern Railway has announced the cancellation of 68 trains arriving at and departing from Jammu and Katra stations until 30 September due to persistent heavy rainfall and flooding in the region. Meanwhile, 24 train services have resumed operation to help stranded passengers.

A railway spokesperson said that rail traffic between Pathankot and Jammu has remained disrupted for over eight days following heavy rains since 26 August. This has left a large number of people, especially pilgrims, stranded as both rail and road connectivity suffered major disruptions. The Jammu region has recorded 380 mm of rainfall so far, the highest since 1910.
To assist stranded passengers, Northern Railway is running special shuttle services such as the Jammu Tawi–Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra route (two shuttles), Jammu Tawi–Kolkata, and Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra–New Delhi trains. Four shuttle trains will operate on the Jammu–Katra section from 1 to 15 September.
Train services including Sampark Kranti, Sealdah Express, Kantri Express, Vande Bharat, Trivandrum Express, and shuttle trains have been restored. Two pairs of trains are operating as shuttles between Jammu and Katra to facilitate the movement of locals and stranded travellers. The Jammu–Kolkata and Vaishno Devi–New Delhi trains are also operational. The Vande Bharat train will resume service from 7 September.
So far, 5,784 stranded passengers have been transported from Jammu on seven special trains.
