Jaipur, 2 September (Kiran News) – After several days of persistent rainfall, Rajasthan witnessed a temporary slowdown in precipitation on Tuesday, with light to moderate showers recorded in about a dozen cities, including Jaipur. The highest rainfall was reported in Nangal Rajawatan, Dausa, where 53 mm of rain was recorded. In Dausa’s Lalsot, the breach of a temporary dam led to the flooding of several villages in Jaipur district. The collapse of the Nalawas dam in Lalsot also left hundreds stranded in rising waters, impacting more than five villages in Kotkhawda and Chaksu tehsils of Jaipur. In Jodhpur’s Tinwari area, a house collapsed on Tuesday morning.
According to the Meteorological Department, rain was recorded in Jaipur, Udaipur, Bikaner, Sriganganagar, Dausa, Jhunjhunu, Baran, Alwar, Sawai Madhopur, Bharatpur, and several other locations. The monsoon has been particularly favourable for Jaipur this year, with the city receiving 772.74 mm of rain so far—73 percent above the seasonal average.
Intense Rainfall Expected to Return in Eastern and Southeastern Regions
Director of the Jaipur Meteorological Centre, Radheshyam Sharma, stated that a low-pressure area has formed over the northern Bay of Bengal, which is likely to move northwest over the next 24 hours. Additionally, a circulation system has developed over northern Rajasthan and Haryana. As a result, heavy rainfall activity is expected to increase once again in the eastern and southeastern regions from 3 September onwards.
Between 3 and 5 September, isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely in Kota, Udaipur, Ajmer, and Bharatpur divisions. Rain activity may also intensify in parts of Jodhpur and Bikaner divisions between 5 and 7 September, with isolated heavy rainfall expected in southern Rajasthan.
Monday Sees Heavy Rain in Dausa; Jaipur Temperatures Rise After Night Showers
On Monday, Dausa received the highest rainfall at 177 mm. Jaipur experienced intermittent rainfall through the night, resulting in more than two inches of rain and waterlogging in fields and an increase in water levels in rivers and streams. The collapse of the Bishanpura dam near Goner added to the situation. Despite cloudy skies on Tuesday, the appearance of sunshine led to a rise in daytime temperatures, with Jaipur recording a maximum of 32.3°C and a minimum of 24.6°C.
Bisalpur Dam Releases Water Amid Rising Inflows
Continuous rainfall has increased the inflow into Bisalpur Dam. Four gates were opened to release 36,060 cusecs of water. Currently, gates numbered 8 and 11 are open by 1 metre, and gates 9 and 10 by 2 metres to manage water discharge. The Triveni river is currently flowing at 4.50 metres.
