Bhopal, August 4 (Udaipur Kiran): A strong rain system is active in Madhya Pradesh. Due to this, Bhopal has been experiencing rainfall since Sunday morning. Today, 31 districts, including Indore, are also expected to receive rain. A red alert for extremely heavy rain has been issued for Ratlam, Mandsaur, Neemuch, and Guna. Continuous rainfall has caused all the small and large rivers in the state to overflow. Ten major dams are full. It is worth noting that 58% of the season’s total rainfall, or 21.6 inches, has already occurred in MP in just 44 days. This is 2.6 inches above normal.
According to the Meteorological Department, the cyclonic circulation system has changed into a low-pressure area. The monsoon trough is also active. Both systems will show strong activity today (Sunday). The activity will weaken slightly from Monday. The highest rainfall in the state has been recorded in Seoni district at 323 inches, which is 11 inches above the quota. Mandla, Narmadapuram, Bhopal, Raisen, and Chhindwara are the districts where the rainfall figure is 25 inches or more. Rewa is lagging behind with only 9 inches of rainfall. Overall, the state has received 14% more rainfall so far. Of this, the eastern part has received 6% more rain and the western part 21% more.
Over the past three days, the state has been experiencing heavy rainfall. Due to this, 10 major dams have overflowed. Bhopal’s big pond is also full. The gates of the Bhadbhada dam have been open for the past two days. Water is also being released from the Kaliasot dam. The gates of the Kolar dam near Bhopal have also been open for the past week.
The gates of the Tawa dam in Narmadapuram, Rajghat dam in Ashoknagar, Bargi dam in Jabalpur, Barna dam in Raisen, Halali dam in Vidisha, and Machagura dam in Chhindwara have also been opened. It has been raining in Vidisha since Sunday morning. The Betwa river is flowing only 5 feet below the danger mark. The water level of the Betwa river has crossed 1367 feet, while the danger mark is at 1373.64 feet.
