Five terrorists were killed in an encounter at Badigam in Shopian’s Zainpora. The gun battle broke out in the morning after security forces acting on specific information about the presence of terrorists in the south Kashmir district.
Security forces launched a cordon and search operation which turned into an encounter after the hiding terrorists opened fire.
As the security forces retaliated and the gun battle intensified, five terrorists were neutralised.
The identity of the terrorists is being ascertained, but a top Hizbul Mujahideen commander is believed to be among those killed.
Huge quantity of arms and ammunition was also recovered from slain terrorists.
