New Delhi, August 1: Congress leaders have reacted strongly to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recent video message directed at students, criticizing his silence on the use of batons and pellet guns against children.
Congress leader Sandeep Dikshit spoke to a news agency, stating, “As far as abusive language is concerned, I condemn it. I have never supported the use of indecent words in public life. I said the same when Arvind Kejriwal insulted Congress and Sheila Dikshit. We condemned the use of foul language by BJP leaders, but the Prime Minister has not expressed any regret.”
He further remarked, “Whether it is Mahatma Gandhi, Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, Indira Gandhi, or other Congress leaders, they have been subjected to the most vulgar abuses. Some individuals have publicly symbolized that they could shoot Mahatma Gandhi again. In this country, those who assassinated Mahatma Gandhi have been glorified. We have never seen the Prime Minister disturbed by this.”
Dikshit added, “If you label the fallen standards in politics, it becomes a norm. This trend of abuse started with Arvind Kejriwal in 2011-12, and BJP leaders have taken it to its peak. The Prime Minister has never responded to this.”
He emphasized, “Being abused is absolutely wrong. The question remains, when will the Prime Minister speak on issues concerning children? The government’s attitude suggests that sometimes they label children as terrorists, while the Delhi police claims that violent elements infiltrated protests. If all this is true, the government does not seem to take any action.”
Meanwhile, Rakesh Sinha, media in-charge of Jharkhand Congress, commented on PM Modi’s video message, saying, “It is fine for the Prime Minister to create reels and forgive children, but why have the culprits who used pellet guns, AK-47s, and batons against children not yet resigned? Amit Shah should resign. He must clarify why he has not yet apologized to the Home Minister. His resignation should be demanded.”
