Beijing, August 7: The International Organization for Standardization (ISO) has recently released a revised international standard titled “Ferrous Metals – Heat Treatment – Vocabulary,” led by China. This initiative was organized and spearheaded by Chinese experts, with participation from specialists from Germany, Japan, Finland, France, Italy, and other countries. It marks the first time that China has taken the lead in revising international standards in the fundamental area of heat treatment for ferrous metal materials.
The standard defines approximately 300 terms related to the heat treatment of ferrous metals, such as steel and cast iron. It serves as a fundamental and universal standard for technical exchanges, product testing, and commercial recognition across industries including steel, automotive, aerospace, energy equipment, and construction machinery.
This revision has reorganized the heat treatment vocabulary system, categorizing all professional terms into nine major categories. Notably, by establishing a globally integrated, multilingual, and mutually recognized vocabulary system, this standard aims to eliminate industrial technical barriers, reduce transaction costs, and ensure product quality across countries worldwide. It will provide significant support for global cooperation, technological innovation, and trade facilitation in the ferrous metal heat treatment industry.
