New Delhi, August 6: Fast bowler Brijesh Sharma will represent Jammu and Kashmir in the upcoming domestic cricket season (2026-27). Hailing from Mada town in Udhampur district, Brijesh gained attention while playing for Rajasthan Royals (RR) in IPL 2026. He registered himself as a player with the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) for the IPL auction.
A reliable source from the Jammu and Kashmir Cricket Association (JKCA) confirmed on Thursday, “Yes, Brijesh Sharma has joined the Jammu and Kashmir team for the Ranji Trophy. He is currently with the team for the preparation camp.”
Brijesh is among the players from Jammu and Kashmir who will participate in a practice match against Uttarakhand at SK Stadium in Srinagar from August 10 to 17.
Having played for Jammu and Kashmir’s age-group teams, Brijesh trained under coach Deepak Puniya in Delhi. His impressive performance in the 2025 Bengal Pro T20 League earned him an IPL contract. In his debut season with RR, he took 14 wickets in 13 matches after being bought at a base price of 3 million rupees during the auction.
Although Brijesh has yet to play first-class cricket, he will kickstart his first-class career with Jammu and Kashmir in the upcoming season. Notably, Jammu and Kashmir is the current Ranji Trophy champion, having made history by defeating the strong Karnataka team to win their first Ranji title. Right-arm fast bowler Aaqib Nabi, who had a memorable performance in the last Ranji season, has been selected for the Indian team for the Sri Lanka Test series, becoming the first player from the region to achieve this milestone.
