Chennai, August 2: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) launched a strong counterattack on Congress leader Rahul Gandhi regarding his comments on the proposed redistricting in the Lok Sabha. The party accused Gandhi of creating division among the people of Tamil Nadu and spreading fear.
BJP spokesperson Narayanan Tirupati responded to Gandhi’s statement, where he claimed that anyone supporting the redistricting would be “betraying Tamil Nadu.” Tirupati emphasized that the BJP has already clarified that the process will not adversely affect any state.
He questioned how Gandhi could know what the redistricting plan entails, arguing that the concerns being raised are premature. He stated that proportional redistricting has been demanded and reiterated that the BJP’s stance is that no state will face undue impact.
Tirupati accused Gandhi of fostering division based on religion and caste, claiming that his statements are damaging to the social fabric of the country. He labeled Gandhi as “anti-national” and accused him of attempting to destabilize the nation.
The BJP spokesperson alleged that Gandhi is frustrated due to Congress being out of power at the center for over 12 years, which is why the party is resorting to confrontational politics. He accused Gandhi of colluding with “anarchists, evil forces, and anti-national elements,” suggesting that he is forming alliances with external powers.
These comments from the BJP leader came after Rahul Gandhi harshly criticized the proposed redistricting during his visit to Tamil Nadu, alleging that it aims to diminish the political representation and influence of the state. He urged both regional and national political parties to oppose any redistricting proposals that could negatively impact the state’s representation in Parliament.
He claimed that supporting such measures would be a betrayal of the interests of Tamil Nadu and its people.
