Bandra Terminus–Udaipur City Superfast Express to Run Daily via Ahmedabad, Mavli on MP Rawat’s Demand

Udaipur | March 25, 2025: In a major relief for passengers traveling between Rajasthan, Gujarat, and Maharashtra, the Bandra Terminus–Udaipur City Superfast Express (Train No. 22901) will now operate daily and follow a new route via Ahmedabad, Udaipur, Mavli, and Chittorgarh, instead of its current thrice-weekly service via Chittorgarh.

Bandra Terminus Udaipur Express

This move follows the intervention of Udaipur MP Dr. Mannalal Rawat, who had written to Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw urging the upgrade in frequency and route change to better serve the needs of the people. The Railway Minister has officially directed the railway directorate to implement these changes and review additional demands placed by the MP.

Route Change to Benefit Thousands of Passengers

Currently, the train operates three days a week, directly connecting Bandra Terminus (Mumbai) to Udaipur City via Chittorgarh. The revised route via Ahmedabad and Mavli is expected to:

  • Save travel time for passengers

  • Improve connectivity between Rajasthan and Gujarat/Maharashtra

  • Serve as a more direct route for many commuters

Railway Minister Responds Positively to MP’s Broader Demands

In his letter to the Railway Minister, MP Dr. Rawat raised several key suggestions aimed at improving train connectivity and infrastructure for southern Rajasthan:

  1. New Train from Dadar (West Mumbai) to Chittorgarh via Udaipur

    • To benefit Rajasthani migrants living in Mumbai

    • Enhance connectivity from central Mumbai hubs

  2. Extension of Gujarat Mail (Train No. 12901) to Udaipur & Chittorgarh

    • Train currently halts at Ahmedabad for over 17 hours

    • Extension would make efficient use of idle time

  3. Extension of Lok Shakti Express (Train No. 22927) beyond Ahmedabad to Udaipur & Chittorgarh

    • This train also remains idle at Ahmedabad for over 16 hours

  4. Additional Coaches for Udaipur–Asarwa Express (20987/20988)

    • Due to increasing passenger demand, MP requested more General, Sleeper, and 3AC coaches

  5. Extension of Proposed Vande Bharat from Udaipur–Ahmedabad to Udaipur–Surat

    • To provide high-speed connectivity between southern Rajasthan and south Gujarat

Railway Directorate to Conduct Detailed Review

The Railway Ministry, while accepting the route and frequency changes of Train No. 22901, has also directed the railway directorate to investigate feasibility and conduct detailed reviews of the MP’s other proposals. These developments are expected to significantly enhance inter-state railway connectivity and benefit thousands of daily commuters and long-distance travelers.
